The time has come for the most experienced athletes to show some action. The Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2022 began this Tuesday, November 15th, and had its first batch of black belt masters seeking to save their spot in the main bracket of tomorrow. On the other side, the colored belts fought to reach their respective division's finals.

In the country qualifiers, the Brazilian black belt and AJP veteran Renato Cardoso, representing Commando Group, joined the round-robin and faced many fellow countrymen. With grit and determination, Renato beat every opponent that crossed his path and got all the points he could need to land his name in the main bracket.

"I submitted all my fights today, and I'm prepared to do my best. I fought today for the spot in the main bracket. Tomorrow I'll fight for the master title, and after tomorrow I'll fight to look for a spot in the main bracket among the adults as well."

In case you were wondering, you didn't read it wrong. Even though he's still competing for the Master gold, Renato also has his sights on becoming the Adult champion.

"I like to compete in both divisions. My mind is very strong. I have a couple of injuries going on, but my focus now is to keep my mind focused on what I need to do, which is to do my best to win."
